Coffee Exports From Vietnam May Climb in February on Weather

February 3, 2012 (Vietnamica) — Coffee exports from Vietnam, the biggest grower of the robusta variety used in instant drinks and espressos, may increase this month as good weather helps beans to dry and as the Tet holiday ends (Bloomberg, Feb. 3). Vietnam Exports 400,000 Tons of Rice in January

February 1, 2012 (Vietnamica) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reports that Vietnam has exported 400,000 tons of rice, worth US$240 million in January – representing a decrease of 25.4 percent in quantity but only 14.2 percent in value against the same period last year (VNA, Feb. 1).

Cambodia-Vietnam Trade Relations in 2011

January 31, 2012 (Vietnamica) — The Vietnamese Embassy’s Trade Promotion Office reported that bilateral trade between grew 54.75 percent to US$2.829 billion in 2011, compared to US$1.828 billion in 2010 (Phnompenh Post, Jan 31). Cambodian exports to Vietnam rose to US$429 million in 2011, compared to US$227 million in 2010. Imports from Vietnam increased 54.63 percent to US$2.4 billion from US$1.552 billion.

Vietnam: Vegetable Oil Industry

January 19, 2012 (Vietnamica) — The Ministry of Industry and Trade unveils that vegetable oil exports from Vietnam have increased 50% in volume and 51% in value in 2011 (Agribiz, Jan. 10). Vietnam exports vegetable oils mainly to Cambodia, China and Australia. The achievement exceeds previous expectation as the industry has faced numerous challenges such as fluctuating prices of input materials and difficulties forecasting production trends. Vietnam Govt Urgently Provides 10,000 MT of Rice to Avoid Famine in Some Provinces
