Vietnam Airlines to Hold 69.93 Pct of Jetstar Pacific

February 22, 2012 (Vietnamica) – Australian carrier Qantas unveiled that Vietnam Airlines will hold 69.93 percent of the low-cost airline Jetstar Pacific following an arrangement with the Vietnamese State Capital Investment Corporation. Qantas owns 30 percent of Jetstar Pacific (AFP, Feb. 22).

OZ Sells Cambodian Assets to Renaissance

February 20, 2012 (Vietnamica) — Oz Minerals says it will sell its Cambodian gold assets to Rick Hart-chaired explorer Renaissance Minerals for US$17.8 million in cash, shares and options. Another $22.5 million will be paid if certain milestones are achieved, including if Renaissance Minerals decides to mine and when a producing goldmine is established.

China Yunnan Copper Resources Drills for Copper, Silver Extensions at Xinzhai Project in Laos

February 3, 2012 (Vietnamica) — China Yunnan Copper Resources is targeting down dip extensions of copper and silver mineralization at the Xinzhai Project, where diamond drilling has commenced (Proactive Investors, Feb. 3). Xinzhai is one of four projects in northern Laos that is 100% held by Yunnan Copper Sanmu Mining Industry, a joint venture company in which Chinalco has the right to earn a 51% interest.

Vietnam Airlines Acquires Jetstar Pacific; Raising Concern Over Monopoly

January 19, 2012 (Vietnamica) – Vietnam’s Prime Minister has allow the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines to take over the entire state-owned equity of budget airline Jetstar Pacific from State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC). SCIC is holding around 70 percent stake in Jetstar Pacific. The other shareholders of Jetstar Pacific are Australian Qantas Airways and Saigontourist. Vietnam Airlines already accounts for 80 percent of the local aviation market share, followed by Jetstar Pacific with around 17 percent.
