Vietnam’s Large Steel Manufacturers: Stable Growth

JS Group to Build Window Sash Factory In Vietnam

February 17, 2012 (Vietnamica) — Japan’s JS Group will build a new factory to produce door and window frames in Vietnam to reduce risks like those faced by Thailand during last year’s historical floods (VOV, Feb 17). The new plant is expected to be in the southern province of Dong Nai on an area of 55 hectares with a total investment of US$385 million. On completion in mid-2013, JS Vietnam will raise its design capacity to 30,000 tons per year, equivalent to 10 percent of the group’s total productivity.

China Steel Sumikin Vietnam Joint Stock Co to Start Test Runs in 2013

September 9, 2011 (Vietnamica) – China Steel Corp (中鋼), the Taipei largest steelmaker held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Taiwan-Japan joint venture in Vietnam as the company continued to expand its overseas reach, on Sept 8. The Vietnamese cold-rolled steel mill, named China Steel Sumikin Vietnam Joint Stock Co (CSVC, 中鋼住金越南公司), is a joint venture between CSC and its Japanese partner, Sumitomo Metal Industries Ltd. Wth a total investment of US$1.15 billion, CSVC is the company’s largest overseas investment project.

Vietnamese Government Approved Cement Industry Development Plan

September 2, 2011 (Vietnamica) – The Vietnamese Government has issued decision 1488/QĐ-TTG on development of the domestic cement industry. Following the decision which took effect since August 29, all cement factories will have to replace blast furnaces to reverter furnaces. Cement projects which produce over 2,500 tons of clinker per day will have to utilize exhaust fuels for power generation.

August 31, 2011 (Vietnamica) – Following the promise of the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on early clearance for Tata Steel’s US$5 billion project in Ha Tinh province, Vietnam has assigned a government team to solve Tata plant deadlock. Tata Steel first signed an agreement with Vietnam Steel Corp. in May 2007 to develop a plant with an output capacity of about 4.5 million metric tons a year in coastal Ha Tinh province.
