TPP Could Help Vietnam Capture Untapped Opportunities in Latin America

VimpelCom Exits Gtel Mobile; Beeline to Leave Vietnam

April 23, 2012 (Vietnamica) — VimpelCom has sold all 49 percent equity stake in Gtel Mobile to the joint-venture’s Vietnamese partner. The state-run, limited company Gtel has paid US$49 million in cash. The deal is completing. And Gtel Mobile will stop using Beeline brand after six months (VnExpress, Apr 23).

Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Dismisses Merger between Vinaphone and MobiFone

MobiFone, Vinaphone to be Merged

March 20, 2012 (Vietnamica) – Mr. Phan Duc Hoang – a member of BoD, Standing Deputy CEO of VNPT – has confirmed that the country’s two largest mobile phone services providers will be merged (DDDN, Mar 20). MobiFone is the first mobile service provider in Vietnam, founded in April 1993. Vinaphone was founded in 1995. VNPT is the only owner of both providers.
